"Several Candidates Viewed Negatively"

A number of candidates for the KPK leadership received negative feedback from anti-corruption activists. Investigation Coordinator of Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW), Febri Hendri, said that ICW found several names that raised concern among those who passed the administrative selection stage. These names include politicians, opportunistic job seekers, and several known to have made public statements against the anti-corruption agenda. Few names listed in the announced candidate list are known for their active promotion of corruption eradication. Several names are known to have a political background, such as Ahmad Yani, Peter Selestinus, and Imam Anshori Saleh.

The Selection Committee for KPK leaders (Pansel KPK) announced 194 names who passed the administrative selection out of 611 registrants. These are entitled to pass on to the next phase. In the meantime, the Pansel is requesting public feedback about the track record of the announced candidates which it will incorporate into its deliberations. Transparency and public participation is crucial in the process in order to select leaders who truly can navigate through the anti-corruption challenges.
 

"DPR Insists on Constituency Funds"

Despite the President's refusal, DPR continues to develop its constituency development programs proposal which it expected to submit to the government shortly. Parliament is scheduled to further deliberate on the proposal during the fifth session in August, together with the government and the DPR Budget Committee.

Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama expressed his satisfaction with the work accomplished by Jakarta's One Stop Services Agency (BPTSP). He stated that BPTSP's public services are equivalent to bank services and noted citizens requiring ID cards (KTP), family card (KK), or any other citizen administration services no longer complain about unregulated payments.

Outgoing President of FIFA, Sepp Blatter, rejected accusations of bribery against him and insisted that allegations of impropriety at FIFA be thoroughly investigated. He alleged that political pressure from the heads of state of Germany and France influenced the decisions to award the Football finals to Russia and Qatar to support domestic business interests.
